Starship
21.10.24
A concept design for a future deep space multi-role Starship.
This was a fictional design taking design elements from current and past designs (Skylab for example) as well as several future proposed technologies. The design is not supposed to be fully practical or realistic, just a bit of fun thought experiment.
Land Rover Defender
03.01.24
A concept design for a scifi Land Rover Defender.
For this project I wanted to contain everything in the scene without post-production. So all lighting, sun flares, camera registation marks are done at render time inside Blender.
I used the fantastic Flares Wizard Blender addon to help create and layer up the sun, well worth it for the price.
I also used the BMS Astronova pack whose materials and meshes I built up to make the environment, not to mention the fantastically rigged characters.
One of the most important and fun parts of any project is excessive moodboarding and research. Typically I can spend anywhere up to a month gathering and studying references before starting a project.
In this case I spent a lot of time looking at existing NASA photography of the moon, lens settings, exposure, sun flares and materials.
Cockpit
04.12.23
I picked up Big Medium Small's Astronova characters as soon as they came out but have was too busy in work to dive in. I finally had a chance at the end of 2023 and eagerly put together from some recycled Orbiter parts I had from an unused project ever since. I had some great input from other designers on how to work with the mist pass in Blender to create some better depth.
This was my first project in Blender 4.0 and I really loved the render speeds, a full 4k scene in less that 10 mins, including lighting, volumetrics, and compositing.
