In 2022 the team at Rapid Images started work on a launch for Volvo Trucks North America.
One of the most exciting parts of the project was the oppertunity to fly out to Nevada, to Death Valley National Park and scan and record a dry lake bed.
Myself and a colleage Tomas set off from Sweden, cameras in tow, to meet up with the Volvo team in Las Vegas who where shooting locations with some other film & photography partners.
Here is a collection of photos I took over the week in and around Nevada.
The dry lake bed iself was just a few kilometers from a deserted ghost town called Bonnie Claire. The town had its beginnings in 1906 to support the gold mines. After the mines ran out the town declined after 1914. We explored a few of the shacks but didnt go far into the mine town.
Driving back to Las Vegas on Route 95, the road becomes parralel to the approach path to Creech Air Force Base, home of USAF and RAF Drone Command. As luck would have it, as we passed an MQ-9 was landing and flew next to the car for a good few minutes, long enough for me to grab my camera at least.
As a bonus, the day after we wrapped shooting I got to visit Hoover Dam with some of the Volvo crew. I am a huge fan of brutalist architecture and have visited many places around the world but the Dam really blew my socks off.
The scale was out of this world, a huge slab of concrete inside a very imposing valley of rock.
Fantasic work team Volvo, it was a pleasure to play a part in the journey over the last two years.
